Drupal is glad to announce its new versions have come into the world. Fixed and upgraded Drupal 6.10 and 5.16 are now available for free download so if you want your Drupal site to work smoothly and properly it is highly recommended to update it now, although there are no new features.

Please check the release notes to see the full list of changes between versions 6.9/6.10 and 5.15/5.16, and check the list of all the bug fixes in Drupal-6 branch and Drupal-5 branch.

As for the security vulnerabilities maintained in Drupal 5.16 and 6.10 you can find all the details in the security official advisories

- SA-CORE-2009-003
- SA-CORE-2009-004

If there is a security problem you can fix it via upgrading or patching Drupal. But full upgrade is recommended because patches do not support bug fixes added to the releases.
Making use of patches may leave your website unupdated so thus the status module will be confused reminding you each time to upgrade your Drupal to newest version.

But if you still want to patch your Drupal you need to apply http://drupal.org/files/sa-core-2009-003/SA-CORE-2009-003-6.9.patch file to Drupal 6.10 codebase or http://drupal.org/files/sa-core-2009-004/SA-CORE-2009-004-5.15.patch to Drupal 5.15 codebase.

Don’t forget to run update.php as it is very important.

The maintenance releases of Drupal 6.9 and Drupal 5.15, responsible for solving problems with bug tracking and security system, are presented for download now.
The most important advice for you is to have your Drupal 5 and 6 sites upgraded. It is better to accomplish full update instead of patches as they do not include all the bug fixes implemented in new release. If you upgrade the patch your website will behave as it is still of the old version and your update status module will keep reminding you to have it renewed to the latest version of 6.9. or 5.15.
The releases of Drupal 6.9. and 5.15 are not characterized by new features, they only provide an improved security system taking into account all the vulnerabilities. We provide the history of security advisories and an RSS feed as well as mailing list for you to be aware of the most recent security advisories and announcements. Every Drupal administrator is advised to sign up for the options.
